A good end to a not-so-happy Monday

I am not going to talk about the not-so-happy parts.  The word infertile sums up the unhappiness.

But tonight was good.  I went to see the band play at the annual city band festival.  All the middle school and high schools band play.  It is awesome and I was in it when I was a kid.  A few of the kids knew I was coming to take pictures…it is only fair since I take them at all the sports games.  As I was walking down the stairs I heard it.

My name was being whispered around and heads were turning.  There were huge smiles and waves.  I smiled and waved back.  They love when their teachers come to see them, even though they are WAY to cool to every admit it.  But the part that warmed my heart the most was one whispered statement.  One of the other kids in the band who must have been a 7th grader probably asked who I was.

“That’s my science teacher.”  I could hear the pride and excitement in the voice.  Like the speaker was saying, “Hey!  That’s MY teacher.  She showed up to see us and hear us and take our pictures.  That is so awesome!”  It was they way the statement was spoken that touched my heart.

I love these kids and I think they love me back…only they will never admit it because it wouldn’t be cool.  And as for me, I will let my actions speak for me as I continue to make time for them and show them I care.  Actions really do speak louder than words.  But tonight 4 little words spoke volumes.
