A little about me…

Who am I?

That is a very big question. I am a wife. I am a daughter. I am a teacher. One day I hope to add And now “I am a soon-to-be-mommy” to that list. And now I am a mommy to two beautiful twin boys!

I have been blogging since July 3, 2004. I started on Blogger first. My blog was titled Mundane News. My original reason to start blogging was to have a way for my dearest friends to keep up with the “mundane” parts of life we missed by living so far apart. My blog followed me to Charlottesville, Virginia that first summer. And shortly thereafter followed me back to Texas.

In the summer of 2006 I moved over to TypePad for more features. I enjoyed TypePad. It is there that I began my new life as a wife. Now, a year later I am at WordPress. It is free and offers just as many options as TypePad. Hopefully this will be my last home.

In my switch to TypePad, the name of my blog changed. I went from “Mundane News” to “The Small Moments”. I had read a quote about how the small moments of life are what make the big moments more grand. Frustratingly enough, I cannot find that quote anywhere. I found a different one though and it is the subtitle for the blog. It is the small moments of life that make our memories. The smell of a summer night. The cozy feel of snuggling under the covers as rain pours down on a Saturday morning. The realization that you are a wife as you wash your china in the sink. Of course we remember the big defining moments of life. But those big moments would not be as significant if not colored by the smaller moments. My blog is where I try to capture some of those moments. My blog is my journal. It is the only journal I have ever been successful with. I share boring day-to-day life. I share my thoughts and feelings. Some posts are meaningful and deep, others are silly and frivolous.

Currently I am a middle school teacher. This school year I will be teaching 8th grade science and I will be the department chair. In the past I have taught 6th grade science, 7th grade science, and 9th grade Earth science. I love teaching. Currently I am a part time stay-at-home mommy and I work part time in the family business.  Before our twins were born I was a teacher.  I came home from my first day of kindergarten and remember telling my mom that I was going to be a teacher when I grew up. She and my dad hoped I would change my mind. It isn’t that they don’t think teaching is a worthy profession, they just hoped that I would do something that would lead to more money. But I wasn’t to be swayed. I graduated from Baylor University with a degree in elementary education in 1999. Then I graduated again in 2003 from Baylor with a Masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction.

My husband is also a teacher. He teaches health in high school. But his main job is an athletic trainer. Our lives are filled with sports. We love high school and college football and college basketball. Of course sports are always on the TV (much to my irritation). I even know where to find ESPN. Mostly, I am okay with it, but sometimes I get tired.

We were married on June 17, 2006. As I write this we are a day away from celebrating our 1st wedding anniversary.

I am a Harry Potter FREAK! I love the books, the movies, the websites. My family laughs at me. I don’t really care.

I consider myself a life long learner. I love to read and research. The more I know the happier I become.

There is so much to know about me that my About page could stretch on forever. If you are new I suggest you read some of my old posts. Many are uncategorized at the moment, but I will be working to go back and categorize the older posts. I love to read comments that people leave…so please feel free to leave as many as you like. Enjoy my small moments!
