List of Things
[Last Edited on Saturday, November 8, 2008]
I read WAY too many blogs. I waste HUGE amounts of time by reading all of those blogs. But I see things repeated in blogs and then steal it like the upstanding citizen that I am and put it on my blog. One thing that I see in lots of blogs is a list of things. Just random things. But things to let visitors know more about you without having to read long, boring, rambling paragraphs. So here is my list. I will just add to it whenever I think of something new…so you might want to check back sometimes…if you care about my list of things that is.
1. I am a Texan. Is Texas the only state where people actually refer to themselves in this way? I don’t know…but I have never heard anyone say, “Hey! I am and Idahoan. “
2. I teach middle school and love it. I don’t like elementary school. I don’t like high school. I love hormone crazed pre-teens and teens. They are fun and crazy like me. Yeah, I gave that up to be a part-time stay at home mom with our boys. I also work part-time at our family business where I can take the boys with me.
3. Harry Potter is my first love. My husband has come to terms with this.
4. I am married to an athletic trainer who also teaches health (as of the 2008-2009 school year he doesn’t have to teach any classes!). He says that he works hard. I laugh. (Actually, he does work hard as an athletic trainer to all the various high school sports. But teaching 1 class of health a day is NOT hard work.)
5. I taught science for 6 years. Earth Science is my favorite.
6. I really wanted to be a meteorologist…until my meteorology teacher (who was a meteorologist on the local weekend news) told me how many math classes I had to take. I changed my mind.
7. I have had a black cat named Sirius Black. (You will only understand this if you have read Harry Potter.) (Do you see the signs of my Harry Potter craze?)
8. I really like the song Copacabana.
9. I like pop corn with absolutely nothing on it. I have one of those micro poppers and pour in the corn and pop it. Then I eat it. No salt, no butter, no nothin’.
10. One of my favorite memories of my wedding is when we were heading to the chapel after getting our hair and makeup done. My mom, Carole who was my matron of honor, and my two cousins who were bridesmaids, and I were in the limo. Carole started singing “Chapel of Love” by the Dixie Cups. That “oldie-but-goody” song. Everyone joined in and I couldn’t stop smiling. It was the absolute perfect wedding day moment.
11. I was band president my senior year in high school.
12. And I was voted “Miss Band” as well. I still have the trophy.
13. I believe in global warming.
14. My parents think I am liberal but my liberal friends think I am conservative.
15. I would eat sushi at least once a week if I could.
16. Autumn is my favorite time of year. The Autumnal Equinox (first day of fall) is my favorite day. I have been known to send “Happy Autumnal Equinox” e-cards to friends and family. I take every chance I get to explain what an equinox and a solstice is.
18. I love driving with the windows down on a summer night around dusk.
19. I have my scuba certification but have yet to go scuba diving in the ocean. I have only been lake diving which pretty much sucks.
20. I am struggling with infertility. My husband strong swimmers and lots of them. My ovaries? They don’t seem to want to produce eggs. Thanks to the miracle of Clomid we have beautiful twin boys!
21. I love going to the Dallas Farmer’s Market. We never eat the cut up fruit they offer.
22. I get up extra early to take a shower and then go back to bed for an hour to hour and a half. I was never a kid who hit the snooze. Who wanted only 9 more minutes of sleep?!?! I wanted one more HOUR of sleep. So starting in high school I would get up really early and shower then go back to bed. Then I would get up at the normal time to finish getting ready. It always worked. The second time I would get up I would be wide awake and ready to get up. I still do it. My husband thinks he married a crazy person, but he has gotten used to it. I only do this on days when I have to go to work.
23. Orion is my favorite constellation.
24. I have all 7 Harry Potter books on my Ipod.
25. I prefer Firefox to Explorer.
26. But now I prefer Safari because we mainly use our MacBook Pro.
27. I prefer Mac to PC. And once we save up the money to get a new Mac the PC will be gone forever! I am never going back!

Stumbled my your blog and find your writing very honest. I share a lot of things that you have on your list. Am a Harry Potter fan too but not as much as you. I was smiling reading about your cat’s name. I share your journey through infertility too.

I forced my daughter to listen to me read the 7th book for punishment. I really just wanted to read it again but had just finished it for the 3rd time a few days before. Now she is hooked. She says it is the best punishment ever. Oh yeah, and Firefox rocks.
I get up early to take a shower and then I go back to bed too! It always ends up being a 5 mins shower so I go back to bed.
I also only do this on days I have to be up at a certain time
I set my alarm early just so I can hit the snooze button several times before I HAVE to get up (and then rush through my shower).
Also, in Maine we are proud to admit we’re Mainers (Mainans doesn’t sound right, but same concept), even though many people think we’re part of Canada!
Oh my. I am amazed at how our lives have mirrored in so many ways even though we haven’t seen each other in years. Funny.
Love your blog – still a talented writer all these years later!
